Around day 3 of the 6 days I'm watching my niece and nephew this week- when being sneezed on and woken up in the middle of the night to fix "cubers" and touching other people's poop and never showering have become routine- I wonder why, why in god's name anyone would ever do this on purpose.
But then I catch sleeping eyes in the rear view mirror. Or turn crocadile tears into toothy smiles with something as simple as a silly face. I hear him repeat something I taught him and see her mimick a dance I did. I find myself putting straws in everything I drink. I slip tiny toes into footie pajamas and turn Decemberists songs into lullabies. And I remember exactly why.

but for the record: i am still not doing this myself for a long long time.

Posted by: UnderwearNinja at March 22, 2004 09:41 PMwe don't do it on purpose, silly.
would you babysit for me? just until the real child is born, and then i'll take over for myself...
Posted by: nv at March 22, 2004 10:05 PMum, you might be kicking my ass in the pool, 'cept how the ONE team of yours that's ahead of mine? you picked kentucky. GOOD LUCK! but we are technically tied for second. YAY!
Posted by: sar at March 23, 2004 08:41 AMFYI - the boots on the kid in the bottom pic are slammin', yo.
Posted by: cw at March 23, 2004 09:10 AMThat's how they get you. They trick you by being insanely adorable and then you get one of your own and it's all temper tantrums and bodily functions until they're 18.
I'm sticking with cats.
Posted by: Auntie Sarah at March 23, 2004 10:12 AMthis is precisely the reason why i love babysitting!
